The Committee is working hard to safely manage a return to kayaking activities.
All members should read the documents in the Covid-19 section of the Members website
(Note only accessible to Club members)

Latest update from the Chairman
Training and Trips will be in separate pods of NO MORE than 6 ( inc. Coach/Leader) and could be at different venues, early starts & different days to normal.

Trips will be capped to A and B grades for the time being (NO OFFSHORE CLUB TRIPS).
No C and D grade Club trips till further notice from the Committee.

Self Rescue
To be able to go on B grade trips you MUST be able to perform a self rescue of some sort in calm water
(to reduce the chance of a close contact rescue being needed ).

We are counting a self rescue as "you are out of your boat , afloat, and you get back in your boat un assisted".

Normal Club rescue will be carried out "IF NEEDED" to keep us ALL as safe as possible .
To reduce the chance of a normal rescue being needed we will be pushing self rescues at training sessions.
This will make more trips available to you to attend.

There are a few different methods for this. Here are some common ones:
1. Re entry and roll.
2. Cowboy or Straddle rescue.
3. Toe hook entry (normal rescue technique ) using a Paddle float.

Thanks for your patience during this tricky time.
Tony Hart

We are a friendly canoe club loosely based in Portsmouth and the Solent area, but with members from all over the South Coast and beyond. We welcome anyone interested in kayaking; from novices to experienced paddlers.

We have regular evening paddles and training sessions, trips each weekend all year round and weekends and weeks away. In the winter we run a indoor pool session for acquiring and improving paddling skills.

We are always keen to welcome new members, and are BCU affiliated

Why not join uswe paddle all the year round. Portsmouth has access to a wide variety of saltwater from sheltered harbours to tide races and the challenge of circumnavigating the Isle of Wight. This is Sardinia below where we have also been.

If you are new to paddling then come along to our Monday sessions in the summer to try out paddling and meet Club members.

After completing safety drills and acquiring basic skills, you can move to evening paddles on Wednesdays for more advanced skills, fitness training or even just for fun!
